Hello all,
my name is Simone and I am the visual arts coordinator in charge of the Adell McMillan Gallery and the EMUs permanent art collection.
I hope to be putting on some great shows in the next couple years, so keep an eye out.

art snob???
posted: Apr 14, '08 3:53PMWe recently had a call for entries for the Pacific Northwest Art Annual specifying that entrants should either be on their way to receiving their B.F.A. or M.F.A. OR be an established artist. I think this is a pretty fair way to go about things when looking for work for a show that has been going on over 40 years.
But to my surprise, I received an email one day saying that I..me ..yours truly, was the DEFINITION of an art snob, because of the specifics...
I really didn't want to respond to this email, but at the same time, I definitely didn't feel that that person had any right to judge, especially based off of a call for entry! So I proceeded to explain to said angry artist that they don't NEED a degree and that by established artist, I meant just that, someone who has had a considerable number of shows/exhibits and has a strong artistic background. Don't get me wrong, I know people have to start somewhere, but I guess this just wasn't that place for that artist. It's like that saying goes, "A brick wall isn't there to stop you, but to stop the people who aren't strong enough to get over it"......or something...anyway, was that brick wall a little too brickish???
so, art snob or not, I guess these are the waters one must tread when dealing with the public and their feelings.
